Domain Expert (Chemistry)
About the Role
We are seeking a Chemistry Domain Expert for high-stakes AI red teaming. Your primary focus will be testing model safeguards against generating instructions for hazardous chemical synthesis, explosives, or chemical weapons. You will work to ensure our security layers can detect and block dual-use chemical knowledge.
What You'll Do
- Attempt to bypass safety filters to generate hazardous synthesis instructions
- Red-team models for knowledge of restricted chemical precursors
- Create obfuscated prompts (scientific slang) to test filter robustness
- Evaluate AI detection of chemical weapon conceptualization
- Verify accuracy of safety warnings in chemical responses
Requirements
- MS or PhD in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or related field
- Deep expertise in organic synthesis and chemical safety
- Proficiency in English (Polyglots preferred)
- Strong understanding of dual-use research concerns
- Responsible mindset dealing with sensitive security topics
Nice to Have
- Proficiency in multiple languages
- Experience with hazmat protocols
- Background in toxicology or energetics
- Knowledge of export control regulations
